Iznik Botany

A complimentary project to ‘Terracotta Botanicals’ where the same theme of combining an Artist & Archive has been interpreted differently.

Inspired by Iznik ceramics at The Victoria & Albert Museum, where the potters depicted tulips, hyacinths and carnations and Artist Erin Gregory’s abstract style of painting. My abstract floral paintings a filled with the flowers that inspired the Iznik Ceramists translated into a fresh warm colour palette.

Hand-cut sequins stacked and layered unconventionally, covered with bold mark making stitches contrasted with sculptural ribbon manipulation, captures the fluid textural nature of the paintings in a three-dimensional way.
